Welcome to the Open Forge!

The Open Forge is meant to give smiths access to equipment that they may not have in their own shop.  It is also an opportunity to interact with other smiths.  This sets a great environment for collaborative learning and networking, we all learn from each other.  Bring your creativity and bounce ideas off the other smiths!

The Open Forge is not a class. With everything going on the Open Forge is not an environment where we can effectively teach a class. We will do a short basic techniques hour.  This is designed to help first time attendees to learn about safety and the very basics of forging.  We are looking to introduce you to a brand new world of forging.  We will try to make the basic techniques hour happen at every open forge, but they are dependent on the availability of volunteers.

We aim to make this experience affordable to everyone.  The $20 we charge is to help cover the cost of propane and other consumables.  We can often share a piece of mild steel or two for small projects.  If you require material for forging, please ask one of our volunteers.  We will work on selling you materials, or feel free to bring your own.

When you arrive at the open forge, please register.  Knowing who is attending every Open Forge helps with safety and returning the inevitable lost and found item.

Lastly, please follow posted rules and guidelines.  These are in place to ensure that you are safe, the people around you are safe and the equipment is safe.  We all want to go home with all of our digits.
