Workshops and Classes

We offer many classes and workshops throughout the year related to blacksmithing and knifemaking. We also host open forges on a biweekly basis. Check our calendar below to see all of our upcoming events.

Open Forge

If you are interested in taking one of our classes, please attend as many Open Forge nights as you can prior to taking your course! Come and meet the guys, take in the environment, get a feel for the metal and the heat, learn safety, etc.

* We strongly suggest beginners attend the Open Forge prior to taking a class. 

Join us on scheduled Wednesday’s from 5pm-8pm. It’s $20 to particpate or just stop in to see what’s happening!

EDC Knife Workshop (Full)

When: August 3-4, 2019

Time: 6am-1pm

Price $385

Learn the basics of forging an every day carry knife under the instruction of Rodger LaBrash. You will forge a 3-inch long blade from 1084, then go through the processes of grinding, heat treating, and handling the blade to create a finished knife. All materials will be provided.

* This is a beginnger knife making course.

Camp Knife Workshop (Full)

When: September 28-29, 2019

Price $385

In this class you will learn how to forge and construct a knife under the instruction of Rodger LaBrash. You will forge a blade from 1084 that 4-5 inches in length, you will then go through the processes of forging, grinding, heat treating, and handling the blade. All materials will be provided.

*This is a great intermediate class.

Mokume Gane Workshop

When: November 1-3, 2019

Price: $600

This is a 3-day workshop with an in-depth emphasis on patterning.

You will start out with a 23-layer billet forged from nickel and copper that is about              2″ x 3″ x 1-1/2″ +/- in size.

Once the billet is fused you will learn to draw out to a rough shape and then start the patterning process so then we can reveal some of the patterns at the end of the class. All materials provided.

* Intermediate-to-advanced level course.

Welding Workshop

When:  November 30-31, 2019

Price: $350

The purpose of this class is to learn proficiency in mig welding. Each participant will leave with a pair of dice and a pillow that they fabricated themselves.

Day 1: Review the different processes of welding. Do some hands-on welding of various shapes and positions.

Day 2: Fabricate dice from 1/8″ x 2″ flat bar. Fabricate pillow from sheet metal and compressed air.

Chef Knife Workshop

When: December 28-29, 2019

Price $450

Forging experience is strongly recommended for this class, as it is meant to help you refine your grinding skills! You will learn how to forge and construct a chef knife under the instruction of Rodger LaBrash. You will forge am 8-inch blade from 1084 and then you will go through the processes of forging, grinding, heat treating, and handling the blade. All materials will be provided.

* This is an advanced class meant to help you refine your grinding skills.

Damascus Knife Workshop (Full)

When:   Part 1 May 10, 2019

Part 2 – June 22-23, 2019

Price $525

In this two part class you will learn how to forge a damascus billet and then forge that billet into a gorgeous knife, under the instruction of Rodger LaBrash.

Part 1: You will make a Damascus billet from 1095 & 15N20 and forge a ladder pattern into it.

Part 2: You’ll forge the billet into a 4-5 inch blade, then you’ll go through the processes of grinding, heat treating, and handling the knife. All materials will be provided.

* This is an advanced class.

Basic Blacksmithing Workshop (Full)

When: September 7, 2019

Price $195

In this class you will learn how to make a bbq steak turner. You will learn the basics of tapering, bending and twisting. If time allows, we will work on another small project. All materials and tools will be provided. Please bring safety glasses and work gloves if you have them. Closed toed shoes are required.

Damascus Knife Workshop

When:   Part 1 – October 4, 2019

Part 2 – October 12-13, 2019

Price $525

In this two part class you will learn how to forge a damascus billet and then forge that billet into a gorgeous knife, under the instruction of Rodger LaBrash.

Part 1: Friday you will forge a damascus billet from 1095 & 15N20 and forge a ladder pattern into it. We will also discuss design ideas for the knife you want to create. We will finish forging the billet on Friday evening but it will be too hot to grind into a knife blank that night. So, your homework will be to get the billet ground and ready for the upcoming knife part of the class. You are welcome to come into the open forge the following Wednesday (October 9) if you do not have the equipment. The following Saturday (October 5) may be available also – please check with your instructor.

Part 2: You will forge the billet into a 4-5 inch blade, then you’ll go through the processes of grinding, heat treating, and handling the knife. All materials will be provided.

* This is an advanced class. 

Folder Workshop with Master Smith Bill Burke

When: November 8-11, 2019

Price: $1,350

We are so excited to host Bill Burke to do this liner lock folder workshop!

* Mono steel will be provided – but if you want to use Damascus, it must be already forged, sized, & ready to start making the blade and fittings.

* This class is for more advanced ‘Smiths.

Friday Night Damascus Workshop

When: December 13, 2019

Price: $125

Learn the very basics of forging a simple Damascus billet. The workshop will be at night from 5pm-9pm. The billets will be preassembled so we’ll be able to dive right into forging. All materials are included. Each class is limited to 6 students.

AirBnB Class

Additionally, we offer an AirBNB experience that will teach beginners the basics of blacksmithing with a small class emphasis.
