Workshops and Classes

We offer many classes and workshops throughout the year related to blacksmithing and knifemaking. We also host open forges on a biweekly basis. Check our calendar below to see all of our upcoming events.

OPEN FORGE

When: Wednesday evenings from 5-8PM.

Price: $30 to particpate; free to watch!

If you are interested in taking one of our classes, we strongly suggest that you attend the Open Forge prior to taking your course.  Come and meet the guys, take in the environment, get a feel for the metal and the heat, learn safety, etc.

* If you cannot make it to an Open Forge but are still interested in getting started, please check out our AirBnB option! This class caters to Beginners, as it teaches the basic skills you’ll need to start forging on your own!

FRIDAY NIGHT DAMASCUS WORKSHOP

Learn the very basics of forging a simple Damascus billet.  

The billets will be preassembled so we’ll be able to dive right into forging!

FOLD FORMING & PATINA WORKSHOP

Beginner Course | 8 Participants
January 17-19, 2019 from 8AM-5PM
Price: $325

Instructed by Pat Downing, one of the few experts in these techniques!

Pat will first teach fold forming, a process of transforming flat sheets of metal into three dimensional sculpture, and then how to use both grown and commercial patinas and combinations of patinas to create spectacular finishes on these fold formed pieces.

BLACKSMITH KNIFE WORKSHOP

February 22-23, 2020 from 8AM-5PM
Price: $250

This is a one day workshop where we will produce a hand forged “Blacksmith Knife” forged from 1084.

You will learn the basics of forging, grinding and heat treating the steel.

CANNISTER DAMASCUS WORKSHOP

Beginner Course | 6 Participants 
April 4, 2020 from 8AM-5PM
Price: $195 + materials 

In this class you will learn how to prep and weld your can to have a successful weld in the forge, then we can draw it out into a billet form ready to use.

We will supply the can, lids, and 1095 powder, as well as some 15N20 cut off & damascus end cuts. (These are all included in the price.)

You are welcome to bring bearing, chain, or any other carbon steel to add to your cannister!

BASIC BLACKSMITHING WORKSHOP

Learn the basics of tapering, bending, and twisting!

WELDING WORKSHOP

The purpose of this class is to learn proficiency in mig welding.

Each participant will leave with a pair of dice and a pillow that they fabricated themselves.

CHEF KNIFE WORKSHOP

Advanced Course | 8 Participants
December 28-29, 2019 from 8AM-5PM
Price: $450

You will forge am 8-inch blade from 1084 and then you will go through the processes of forging, grinding, heat treating, and handling the blade.

Learn how to forge and construct a chef knife and refine your grinding skills!

HEAT TREATING WORKSHOP

Learn the basics of heat treating blade steels!

Learn why, how, and what you need to watch for to obtain the desired hardness.

YOUTH BLACKSMITHING WORKSHOP

We will start with a short safety in the smithy course. Then we will begin forging using a propane forge, starting with the basics; tapers, twists, bending. We will then incorporate these skills into making useful projects to take home!

DAMASCUS KNIFE WORKSHOP

Advanced Course | 6 Participants
May 1-3, 2020 from 8AM-5PM  
Price $625

In this class you will learn how to forge a damascus billet and then forge that billet into a knife. You will go through the processes of forging, grinding, heat treating, and handling the blade.

You are welcome to bring your own handle material!

Additionally, we offer an AirBNB experience that will teach beginners the basics of blacksmithing with a small class emphasis.
