Description
This class will be instructed by Tedd McDonah at Grizzly Iron on March 5-6, 2022.
Tedd is one of the all-time masters at this technique, mokume in fire! Tedd has been teaching mokume gane workshops, lectures, and university classes for 22 years. His interest in the process developed during his undergraduate studies in metalsmithing at the University of Wisconsin. He also chose this topic as concentrated research for his graduate school program at Arizona State University, where he earned his MFA in 2001. Due to it’s complexities, mokume gane is prized for it’s status in the metalsmithing world, it’s unique working characteristics, and it’s dynamic visual qualities. Tedd currently resides in the mid-west and is making the trip out here to teach this workshop at Grizzly Iron!
This is a 2-day workshop with an in-depth emphasis on patterning. You will start out with a 23-layer billet forged from nickel and copper. This is no wimpy billet! It will be about 2″ x 3″ x 1-1/2″ +/- in size. Once the billet is fused you will learn to draw out to a rough shape and then start the patterning process so then we can reveal some of the patterns at the end of the class. All materials will be provided.
The price of the class is $750. You can either pay the full amount at the time you sign up or put half down to hold your spot. The balance will be due upon arriving at the workshop. If we do not receive enough registrations with deposit 30 days prior to the date of the class, we reserve the right to cancel the class with a full refund.
